Happy New Year!

Well, I have been told that everyone is over my "obliterated ankle" and it is time to update my blog. So I thought that would be a perfect way to start off the New Year.

Seth was the only one to get invited to a New Year's party, he went over to his friend Clayton's house. Clayton is a great friend for Seth as they are both Aspies (have Aspergers). Aspergers manifests itself in totally different ways in the two, and they balance each other out nicely. Seth is impulsive and doesn't seem to ever think anything through. Clayton, however, is cautious and worries about every possible outcome!

Tyler never wants to stay up until midnight! His excuse is that he has to work the next day, but I think he needs to live it up one night of the year! I was tempted to call up a friend, whose husband is as equally exciting as mine, but stayed home instead.

So, we were watching a rerun of Extreme Home Maker Over, and we got enticed by a dominoes commercial around 8:00pm, advertising their new sandwiches! Yum! They deliver you know!

Then I got obsessed with the story of the Home Make Over family, and I spent some time surfing the web learning more info. Sad story. Being 14 weeks pregnant I was sitting on my computer with tears streaking my face!

Then we watched the party going on in New York, Seth had come home from his friends house and he wanted to stay up until the New Year. So I said sure! We watched the New Year roll into New York (10:00pm Arizona time) and we all yelled happy New Year, and I muttered "in New York" and then we sent the kids to bed! Seth looked a little confused, but it seemed to work.

My "Obliterated" Ankle.

Well I have to admit I am ready for the summer to be over. Overall we have had a good summer. At the beginning of June I went to a YL camp and rolled my ankle. After being home a couple of weeks an MRI showed that I completely ripped off one ligament, "obliterated" is the term the tech put in the report, and a second one is barely attached. Now at the beginning of August I am finally not needing to wear any removable casts, however it is still a little weak and I still am experience a slight bit of pain. I am encouraged though that it is healing well and it doesn't look like surgery will be necessarily. I guess surgery is usually only reserved for professional athletes. So dang I guess my plans of being a professional athlete are out the window, along with all of the cool freebies from Nike and North Face. (sarcasm of course) Sure I like to go hiking and kayaking here and there, but I am a far cry from a professional athlete (and from being in shape for that matter!)

Seth loved to help me out when I was immobile for about a month. He loved to rip off the Velcro and drop ice on it. He was really cute the way he wanted to take care of me, I had to learn to physically hold my leg still as he ripped the Velcro off my cast because of the way he would unintentionally jerk my leg around! I also had to keep reminding him to be gentle in setting the ice down.
Okay I have to tell you about my cast, the cast they gave me is cushioned with 4 air chambers, each with its own valve. I carried around this blue hand pump, shaped like a bulb, to inflate/deflate each air chamber according to my needs. As cool as the concept was, it proved to be a pain. I needed considerable more air standing up then sitting down. In fact too much air while sitting down caused a great deal of discomfort. Add that to the fact that my kids thought the bulb was a toy, and it became anyones guess as to where "mom's blue pumpy thing is." Of course anyone who knows me would realize the kids were a convenient scapegoat. Sometimes the truth was, "Where did mom leave the blue pumpy thing?"

I also have to give Seth a few props. He helped me mop the floors! He pushed the mop around while I stood next to him on crutches. He needed a little guidance to know where to mop and help dipping the mop into the bucket. Needless to say between he and Morgan I had plenty of helpers.

I bet allot of you are thinking I mostly knitted while I was down, but actually I did very little knitting and a ton of reading. I have a bookshelf or more worth of books that I bought and never did get around to reading. Plus I got checked out a bunch from the library as well. I am going to add my favorites to my reading list, so go check that out.

San Diego, AZ

Our family just got back from San Diego. We went "camping" with some families from our homeschool group. We had great fun.

During our trip we visited the USS Midway, Sea World, and of course the beach.

At night we hung out with our group roasting marshmellows and playing games. Seth enjoyed playing flashlight tag with many of the other kids in our group.

Don't let the term camping fool you though. This was an organized campground with flush toliets and showers. A store with anything and everything you need. And IF they don't have what you need there is a grocery store and starbucks just 5 minutes away!

Then of course many of the campers with our group are American Idol fans so we set up a TV to tune in to see who the finalists are going to be this season. So yes this was pathetic camping, or just simply cheap accomodations.

A Jen Moment

For those who know me well will understand fully why I named my blog spot, "A Jen Moment." For those who don't know me well, Seth, my son summed it up well.

Seth said to me one day, "Daddy is really really smart, but you are just a little smart." I tried to hold back the chuckles and the gasps. I asked him why I am just a little smart he answered, "Because sometimes you get confused." I busted up laughing. He was obviously very irritated by my response. He was having a hard time processing why I was laughing. A couple of hours later I did something kinda silly, and Seth used the moment to say to me quite confidently, "See....you get confused!" Hahaha.

So yes, I consider myself very smart (I am not sure Seth is convinced), somewhat intellectual, and lately even political. However, yes, I have moments where I can be quite confused, or "a Jen Moment!"

I am officially a blogger

Well my friend Jennie at www.crosscountryclan.blogspot.com inspired me to start my own blog. I am not sure where I am going with it but I am excited about it.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Tyler, for 8.5 years! I am currently a stay-at-home mom of two kids, Seth 6 and Morgan 4. I have also made the decision to home school, which I enjoy more and more all of the time. One of the reasons why I have decided to home school is because Seth was diagnosed last summer with Asperger's Syndrome.

Seth is doing well! He is a very sweet, lovable, fun loving guy. Morgan is more quiet, reserved, and contemplative. They are as opposite as they come!

Aside from being a mommy, I love to read and knit in my spare time. I also enjoy camping, hiking, and just being outdoors. My husband and I actually own kayaks, and he still owes me a kayak trip down the Colorado river, which could be the subject of a whole 'nother blog entry! So I won't get started now! ;)

Time to get kiddos to bed, so Later!
