Well I have to admit I am ready for the summer to be over. Overall we have had a good summer. At the beginning of June I went to a YL camp and rolled my ankle. After being home a couple of weeks an MRI showed that I completely ripped off one ligament, "obliterated" is the term the tech put in the report, and a second one is barely attached. Now at the beginning of August I am finally not needing to wear any removable casts, however it is still a little weak and I still am experience a slight bit of pain. I am encouraged though that it is healing well and it doesn't look like surgery will be necessarily. I guess surgery is usually only reserved for professional athletes. So dang I guess my plans of being a professional athlete are out the window, along with all of the cool freebies from Nike and North Face. (sarcasm of course) Sure I like to go hiking and kayaking here and there, but I am a far cry from a professional athlete (and from being in shape for that matter!)
Seth loved to help me out when I was immobile for about a month. He loved to rip off the Velcro and drop ice on it. He was really cute the way he wanted to take care of me, I had to learn to physically hold my leg still as he ripped the Velcro off my cast because of the way he would unintentionally jerk my leg around! I also had to keep reminding him to be gentle in setting the ice down.
Okay I have to tell you about my cast, the cast they gave me is cushioned with 4 air chambers, each with its own valve. I carried around this blue hand pump, shaped like a bulb, to inflate/deflate each air chamber according to my needs. As cool as the concept was, it proved to be a pain. I needed considerable more air standing up then sitting down. In fact too much air while sitting down caused a great deal of discomfort. Add that to the fact that my kids thought the bulb was a toy, and it became anyones guess as to where "mom's blue pumpy thing is." Of course anyone who knows me would realize the kids were a convenient scapegoat. Sometimes the truth was, "Where did mom leave the blue pumpy thing?"
I also have to give Seth a few props. He helped me mop the floors! He pushed the mop around while I stood next to him on crutches. He needed a little guidance to know where to mop and help dipping the mop into the bucket. Needless to say between he and Morgan I had plenty of helpers.
I bet allot of you are thinking I mostly knitted while I was down, but actually I did very little knitting and a ton of reading. I have a bookshelf or more worth of books that I bought and never did get around to reading. Plus I got checked out a bunch from the library as well. I am going to add my favorites to my reading list, so go check that out.
